ST. JOHN’S, N.L. — Last week, the Canadian chef-battle series, Battleapps, presented by McCain Foodservice and Underground Chef Co., crowned chef Kyle Puddester of Fork as the final champion at Piatto Pizaria + Enoteca in St. John’s.

Battleapps is a cross-Canada chef competition consisting of three rounds in which the battling chefs are given a new McCain product to create their own appetizer. Chefs have 20 minutes to produce their dish before a panel of judges. The judging panel included Jason Piercey from Rogers Media, Peter Cowan from CBC, Kate Vallis from Piatto and Greg Boyer of McCain Foodservice.

“Battleapps is a great opportunity for local chefs to challenge each other in a high-energy environment with a crowd full of their peers,” says Greg Boyer, Marketing director at McCain Foodservice Canada. “The Battleapps challenge also offers an incredible showcase for the future leaders of Canada’s food scene and McCain is proud to support these chefs.”

Toronto held the first battle in November and the events have since seen chefs duke it out in London, Hamilton, Montreal, Halifax, Saskatoon, Kelowna and now St. John’s.
