GUELPH, ONT. — Earlier this week, the Ontario Cattleman’s Association (OCA) corralled more than 1,700 beef farmers for an unprecedented large-scale, province-wide telephone town hall meeting to discuss the industry’s Proposed Risk Management Program.

The goal of the program is to help alleviate the economic suffering of Ontario’s beef and pork farmers by having the federal and provincial government effectively insure the industry. OCA and Ontario Pork have asked the governments to consider a traditional 60/40 federal/provincial split.

“We need all producers in the province to carry the unified message that we support this program and this technology provided us with the means to inform hundreds of producers in this province of our ambitious action plan,” said Curtis Royal, president of the OCA, speaking about the call.
