SHELBURNE COUNTY,N.S. — Weeks after 300 Ocean Choice workers were laid off when a P.E.I. lobster plant shut down, comes a report that Clearwater Seafoods’ live-lobster storage facility, in Clark’s Harbour in Shelburne County, N.S., has closed.

According to Clearwater spokeswoman Christine Penney, the Clark’s Harbour site was closed to “concentrate operators at the Richmond County site, which can store 1.6-million pounds of live lobster,” reports The ChronicleHerald.ca.

“The business needs to restructure to be competitive globally,” Penney told the ChronicleHerald.ca.

The 21 laid-off workers are being given severance packages; some are being offered work at another plant.
