David Segal Launches Salad Chain

OTTAWA — Davids Tea founder, David Segal, has launched a chain of salad shops in Ottawa. The Mad Radish concept strives to create crave-worthy, healthy food for people on the go.

“It’s time to raise the bar on salads,” says Segal. “We shouldn’t have to choose between food that tastes good and food that feels good. The healthy-food category deserves the creativity, respect and investment that has been poured into hamburgers for decades.”

The company’s head chef, Nigel Finley, ran high-end kitchens at some of Toronto’s top fine-dining restaurants before bringing his culinary ingenuity to the Mad Radish team. Finley has created a seasonal menu that currently includes 12 cold salads, three warm bowls and two soups, along with bread baked in-house and beverages that are made fresh daily.

Menu offerings include the Breakfast-for-Dinner salad, featuring savoury granola, fresh blueberries, roasted beets, toasted walnuts and creamy goat cheese; The Forager bowl, with marinated mushrooms, Jerusalem artichokes and sweet corn in a bed of wild rice and kale; and Watermelon Gazpacho with lime juice, fresh ginger, jalapeño, garlic and coriander.

The chain currently boasts two locations — both in Ottawa — with expansion to additional Canadian markets set to follow.
