TORONTO — Delmanor — the property management group which operates five retirement homes in the GTA — recently held its second annual Mystery Box Chef’s Challenge at Cirillo’s Culinary Academy. Each Delmanor location was represented by its executive chef and sous-chef in a Chopped-style competition, with three industry professionals serving as the judges.

Contestants were asked to prepare a soup, salad and main course consisting of a mystery protein revealed shortly before the competition’s commencement. They were judged on taste, method of preparation, innovation, cleanliness and presentation.

“These kinds of events bring in a competitive spirit and enhances our standards, placing us on top in the industry,” says Divakar Raju, corporate manager of Culinary Services, Delmanor. “It was a fun event, attended by many industry partners [and] sponsored by Nestle Professional, Sysco and many other vendors.”

In the end, the Glen Abbey (Oakville) team took home first prize for its pork chop with coffee sauce. Glen Abbey also received the award for most innovative dish. Second place went to the Prince Edward (Etobicoke) team and third place to Elgin Mills (Richmond Hill).
