Harry’s Celebrates First Birthday with Free Burgers

TORONTO — To celebrate Harry’s Char Broiled’s first birthday, owners Grant Van Gameren, Robin Goodfellow and Nate Young will give away free Plain Jane burgers to customers from noon to 4 p.m. on Oct. 5, in support of the Parkdale Community Food Bank. Diners will be encouraged to make a donation for the food bank in exchange for the free burger.

Proceeds from sales of Ace Hill Beer and Jameson will also be donated and Harry’s will match the total value of donations from the day (up to $5,000).

Van Gameren, Goodfellow and Young will cook their popular burgers outdoors at the event to welcome as many people as possible. Celebrations will also include a birthday cake with 49 candles, representing Harry’s true age. Originally opened in 1968, Harry’s was handed over to the trio last year by original owners Tommy and George Petropoulous, who will be in attendance at the event.

“Harry’s is a Parkdale institution and we’re fortunate to have been embraced by this community since it was passed along to us a year ago. It’s very important that we give back to Parkdale — everyone deserves access to good, quality food regardless of their income,” says Van Gameren.
