KELOWNA, B.C. — Marc Lepine has made history by winning the Canadian Culinary Championship for a second time.
The owner of Ottawa’s Atelier restaurant beat out 10 other chefs from across the country at the two-day competition held in Kelowna, B.C. earlier this month. Lepine first won the decade-old competition in 2012.
Lepine’s winning dish included smoked steelhead trout with miso-molasses glaze, cured pork belly, barley-and-corn porridge and corn cob broth, paired with a single-vineyard chardonnay from Le Clos Jordanne in Niagara, Ont.
Rounding out the competition’s top three were Matthew Batey (silver) of The Nash Restaurant & Off Cut Bar in Calgary and Alex Chen (bronze) of Vancouver’s Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar.
