ST. JOHN’S — The newest Mill Street Brewpub has opened in St. John’s, Nfld.

The latest outpost of the Toronto-based brewery’s popular brewpub is part of a co-branded location with another beer-focused chain that got its start in Toronto — Bier Markt.

Brewing at the new Mill Street location is being overseen by Alexis Wagner, who will be crafting locally inspired brews which will be available alongside Mill Street’s line of beers.

The brewpub also offers a small food menu featuring items such as Belgian pale ale and mussel soup with heirloom tomatoes, roasted parsnips, fresh herbs, Mill Street Belgian Pale Ale broth and crusty baguette ($8); a beer-spiked Brewer’s Pie which varies by season (market price); and beer-brined fried chicken served with Yukon potato mash, gravy, cabbage slaw and honey ($15/person).

This dual-branded concept represents Bier Markt’s first unit in Atlantic Canada. Like the chain’s other locations, The Bier Markt side of the establishment offers more than 150 beers from around the world and a Belgian-inspired food menu. Offerings include five varieties of “Mussels & Frites” ($18/small, $25/large), cremini and Portobello mushroom risotto with wilted vitagreens and shaved Grana Padano ($22), and a candied bacon and potato flat bread with cheese curds, crème fraiche, caramelized onions and scallions ($17).
