Now Open: Power Up Bar

TORONTO — Power Up Bar is Toronto’s newest social gaming experience where “gamers” and “non-gamers” can watch and play video games together, while dining on shareable plates and sipping local craft beers and signature cocktails.

Formerly Trevor’s Kitchen, Power Up’s white interior is accented with blue lighting and gaming pods, creating a space-age vibe. Toronto interior designer Irfan Bukhari designed the space to encourage community gaming and sharing. “I started thinking about an environment that people would nest into and enter the world of their choice through video games and drinks, so the vision of a space carrier was born,” says Bukhari. The walls are covered in white aluminum panels lit with blue LEDs to evoke the feeling of being in a space capsule. The reception desk is the ‘Central Command Deck’, the U-shaped bunk seats are ‘The Pods’ for private-group gaming and the main bar is ‘The Hanger’, a place where the crew and patrons unwind and socialize. “The game pods are each designed with their own flat screen so all guests around the pod can participate by either playing or watching the game,” says Bukhari.

Power Up Bar partnered with executive chef Tim Cuff of the The Fifteen Group to design a menu that can easily be shared amongst friends. Items include parmesan-truffle popcorn, duck confit wings, mini bacon cheeseburgers and the Gamers Platter — pepperoni sticks, stuffed peppers, arancini, spiced beans and warm bread with caramelized onion dip. Prices range from $6 to $21.

Located at 38 Wellington Street East, Power Up Bar can host up to 107 guests in seven round gaming pods, a 25-foot frosted acrylic bar with four gaming stations and an interactive gaming space with a 75-inch flat screen TV for larger party games.
