VANCOUVER — The Oakwood Canadian Bistro has opened in Kitsilano, B.C., with a menu of seasonal, regional cuisine.
A 16-seat communal table, made of reclaimed wood, is at the centerpiece of the 85-seat restaurant that features a “small” menu that spotlights quality ingredients. “We pride ourselves [in] making all products in-house, from the bread to the pastas, the butchery to the sauces — all products are produced with quality and consistency in our kitchen. No smoke and mirrors, just casual, comfortable, honest, unpretentious food,” reads the restaurant website.Executive chef Michael Robbins’ menu includes a AAA-Burger made with hand-cut meat, a house-made poppyseed bun, buttermilk fried onions and smoked cheddar ($17); an Albacore tuna duo with seared and confit tuna, jalapeño aioli, jicima and a frisée salad ($14) and seared scallops with pork-stuffed potato pasta, corn purée and beet garnish salad ($22).
Oakwood is open Tuesday to Sunday from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. and until 2 a.m. on Saturdays.
