Pink Elephant Thai Set to Open in Vancouver

VANCOUVER — Come April, Vancouver will be home to The Pink Elephant Thai.

The eatery, which serves lunch, dinner and cocktails, is named to honour old-world Thai culture and tradition, with “white elephant” symbolizing divine and royal power and “pink” representing fun.

The Thai menu will feature tapas-style dishes best paired with Pink Elephant’s signature cocktails. “I like to think of it as an Iza-THAI-ya,” says the owner Desmond Chen playfully. “Don’t get me wrong, Pink Elephant is not fusion of Thai and Japanese food, but we will offer a casual vibe and tapas-style menu similar to that of a Japanese izakaya, and a low price point, too.”

The 80-seat restaurant, set to open at 1152 Alberni St., is the latest creation of Chen, who also owns Charm Modern Thai, Urban Thai Bistro and Chilli House Thai Bistro.
