HALIFAX — Andrew Al-Khouri, who wowed viewers on Master Chef Canada in 2015, has opened aFrite — a 30-seat intimate restaurant in Halifax.
aFrite features an open-kitchen concept with communal seating and a chef’s bar. It also showcases a changing chalkboard menu featuring beer and wine pairing suggestions for various dishes.
On the menu right now a Meze Board featuring fried zatar bread, fermented baby eggplant stuffed with walnuts and red peppers, olives, apple-wood-smoked hummus, babaganoush, mhumra and Mediterranean string mozzarella ($21); a Sweet Potato and Salt Cod Cake with Thai Massaman curry, fresh basil, toasted peanuts, basil oil and coconut cream ($16); and Braised Lamb & Moroccan Couscous, which features a pomegranate reduction, pistachio crumb, jus, smoked chickpeas, olives, arugula and fresh mint ($35).
