TORONTO — Zomato, a restaurant discovery website and mobile app, is making news in Canada as it now has restaurant information about 11,000 restaurants in the Greater Toronto Area.

Zomato users can view scanned menus and photos of a restaurant and discover a local establishment based on its geo-coded coordinates. Users can also post reviews and share personalized recommendations to other users in their network.

Beginning with the Greater Toronto Area, Zomato services are expected to expand to Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa and Calgary. “We’re proud to include Toronto in our growing list of world-class cities. It boasts of a vibrant restaurant industry, and Canada is a hugely promising market for us. We’ve earmarked US$10 million for our expansion in Canada and are committed to making Zomato the go-to restaurant discovery service in the country. Canada is truly a great starting point for us before we think of getting into the United States,” said Deepinder Goyal, founder and CEO of Zomato.

The company, which was founded in 2008, offers restaurant discovery services for more than 270,000 restaurants in 17 countries, including New Zealand, Brazil, Sri Lanka and Portugal.
