Smiley Pies

TORONTO — Few menu items can put a smile on a child’s face with quite the same reliability as a slice of pizza. To help extend some of those smiles to kids outside of its restaurants, Pizza Pizza, along with its western subsidiary Pizza 73, has launched its annual April Slices for Smiles campaign, running April 26 to May 2, in support of children’s hospitals across the country.

Customers can support the cause by purchasing a medium pepperoni pizza in-store or, for Pizza Pizza customers only, by ordering a pair of medium pepperoni pizzas online. A portion of proceeds will go to Children’s Miracle Network to support leading-edge research, equipment purchases, education programs and treatment at children’s hospitals across Canada.

And, don’t worry if pepperoni pizza is not your thing. Donations can also be made through the purchase of a Miracle Balloon in-store, online and by phone, or at a Pizza Pizza restaurant.

“Children deserve the best hospital care possible,” said Pat Finelli, chief marketing officer for Pizza Pizza and Pizza 73. “We launched Slices for Smiles in 2008 to help bring smiles and happiness to children and our customers. There’s nothing more important than bringing smiles to the faces of children presently undergoing hospital treatment. ”

The money contributed by Children’s Miracle Network to hospitals is ‘undesignated,’ meaning the hospital and its foundation get to place the money where it is needed most. Funds raised from the Slices for Smiles initiative remain in the local market where the original donation was made.

The Slices for Smiles Fund has raised more than $380,000 for children’s charities since its inception in 2008.
