Starbucks Expanding Its Alcohol Menu Across U.S.

SEATTLE — Starbucks has announced plans to expand its evening menu of alcohol and light bites to thousands of U.S. locations in the next several years.

The company began testing the idea in 2010 with its first location in Seattle. Since then, 26 locations in Los Angeles, Chicago and Atlanta began serving wine and beer after 4 p.m.

“The concept is a natural progression for Starbucks as we seek to create a new occasion for customers to gather, relax and connect with each other in the evenings,” Lisa Passé, a Starbucks spokeswoman, is quoted as saying by USA Today.

Forty stores are expected to offer beer and wine by the end of 2014. There are no plans to expand the development outside of the U.S.
