Alcohol Sales Nixed at Toronto’s Atlantic Restaurant

TORONTO — Toronto restaurateur Nathan Isberg is making waves again, with news that his Atlantic restaurant is no longer serving alcohol. The decision follows a move last year to do away with menus and have customers pay what they want.

Isberg announced the alcohol service change on a blog post on his restaurant’s website. “This … might be a deal-breaker for some, so I apologize in advance,” he wrote. “I’m going to stop selling alcohol as a rule. I will do RSVP dinners where wine is served, and these dinners will pay respects to wines that I am moved by.”

The same blogpost also announced plans to eventually move to hosting dinner parties for groups to create a more “intimate and focused” experience.

The changes are in line with Isberg’s interest in Ital cooking, a method he describes as “preserving the energy of ingredients and not interfering with our own.” In keeping with that, he doesn’t serve red meat, he serves little gluten or dairy and, now, little to no alcohol.
