OAKVILLE, Ont. — After consumers ordered more than 50-million pretzel buns from Wendy’s last year, the QSR chain has brought back the limited-time favourite, by offering the Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger and Pretzel Pub Chicken sandwiches across the country.
Pretzel-bun sandwich sales drove a three-per-cent increase in same-store sales at Wendy’s North America in third and fourth quarters last year. “Menu innovation has been playing a major role for Wendy’s as part of our brand transformation in recent years. The introduction of the pretzel bun in 2013 was a cornerstone for us, and it became clear customers were just not ready to say goodbye,” said Lisa Deletroz, director of Marketing for Wendy’s Restaurants of Canada. “After such positive feedback from Canadians, we are delighted to bring the pretzel bun back again for the summer.”
Both Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger and Pretzel Pub Chicken sandwiches sell for $6.19 and feature an artisanal-style pretzel bun. The cheeseburger comes with warm cheddar cheese sauce, Applewood-smoked bacon and smoky honey mustard garnished with cheddar cheese, onions, tomato and a spring mix. The Pretzel Pub Chicken is a lightly breaded chicken breast topped with tomatoes and a spring mix.
