Winners Announced for 2017 Alberta Beverage Awards

CALGARY — Culinaire Magazine has announced the winners of the fifth-annual Alberta Beverage Awards (ABAs).

For the 2017 competition, 850 entrants were judged by a panel of 18 judges from Calgary and Edmonton, including retailers, restaurateurs, sommeliers, educators and journalists. Judges awarded “Best in Class” and “Judges Selection” titles to beverages in more than 50 categories, as well as “Top Value” recognitions in several categories.

Best-in-Class Winners for the 2017 ABAs include:
White Single Varietal — Play Estate 2015 Viogner
Single Malt Whisky — Spirit of Hven Tycho’s Star Single Malt Whisky
Vodka (tie) — Strathcona Spirits Single Grain Wheat Vodka and Tito’s Handmade Vodka
Cider — Lonetree Cranberry Apple Dry Cider
Rum — El Dorado 12 Year Old Rum
Wheat Beer — Grizzly Paw Grassi Lakes Hefeweizen
Gin — Ungava Gin
Coolers and Ready-to-Drink — Crazy Uncle Hard Root Beer
Liqueurs — Krang Spirits – Black Currant Krang
