Toronto Restaurant Removes Tipping Option

TORONTO — As of May 1, Sidecar, a Toronto-based restaurant located in the Little Italy neighbourhood, will no longer accept gratuities for its serving and kitchen staff, reports CityNews.

“Not only are people not supposed to tip, it’s not accepted at all,” owner William Sweete told CityNews. “We will build the cost into the pricing.”

The restaurant will increase menu items by 10 to 20 per cent, while kitchen staff will receive a $1 per-hour raise and the servers will be paid $18 to $20 per hour. Sweete is optimistic the new dining model will provide staff with more financial security and a consistent income. [citynews.ca]
