2020 B.C. Sommelier Finals Recognize Toptable Group’s Wine Director

VANCOUVER — The sixth annual Best Sommelier of B.C. competition came to a close this week as the Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers (CAPS) announced its winner in Rogers Arena. 

The winner of this year’s competition was Peter Van De Reep, of Campagnolo. Van De Reep will move on to the Canadian finals that will be held in the Okanagan this fall. 

The competition was judged by a distinguished panel of experts including, Barbara Philip, Sebastien Le Goff and Jason Yamasaki. Rounding out the top three of the 15 finalists at this year’s event were Christina Hartigan of Gooseneck Hospitality and Leagh Barkley of Toptable Group. This is Barkley’s second straight third-place finish.

“I’m humbled to have had the opportunity to compete in this competition amongst so many highly regarded industry colleagues and to be recognized as one of B.C.’s finalists,” says Barkley, wine director, Toptable Group. “Congrats to all the competitors who bring their expertise and passion for wine to each and every service for the sheer enjoyment of their guests.”

Toptable was well represented in the final with five other members making the top 15.
