A&W to Switch to Real Canadian Cheese; Beyond Meat Burger Returns

VANCOUVER — A&W Food Services of Canada has announced it will eliminate all processed cheese from its menu and serve cheddar cheese, made without artificial flavours, colours or preservatives.

As of October 1, all A&W menu items featuring cheese will be crafted with real cheese, made using 100-per-cent Canadian milk, the company says.

“Year-after-year, A&W has made substantial changes to meet the needs of our guests. What’s better than a Teen Burger topped with real Canadian Cheddar?” says Susan Senecal, president and CEO of A&W Canada. “We believe that sourcing simple, great-tasting ingredients, farmed with care is the right thing to do. Serving real cheese instead of processed cheese was the logical — and delicious — next step.”

All of A&W’s cheeses (cheddar, mozzarella, jalapeño, Monterey Jack and cheese curds) will be made in Canada.

The company also announced its Beyond Meat Burger has returned to all of its stores. Launched in July 2018, the plant-based burger has been one of A&W’s most successful products — running out of stock just weeks after it was released.

“We’re thrilled to say the Beyond Meat Burger is back and we thank all of our guests for their enthusiasm and patience,” Senecal notes. “We know it’s never nice to hear ‘sorry we’re sold out,’ so we’ve been working hard to bring back the Beyond Meat Burger.”
