A Look at Millenials in Foodservice

CHICAGO — Millennials appreciate restaurateurs that are socially responsible, have quality food and support local community activities, according to a report from the Chicago-based research firm Technomic.

“Millennials visit restaurants more frequently than any other generation,” said Darren Tristano, Technomic EVP.

“Restaurant operators are making consistent efforts to track the purchasing habits of Millennials and appeal to their unique need states. Success with today’s Millennial consumer will depend on making an emotional connection and setting expectations.”

According to the report, because Millennials (aged 19 to 34) are a big group, they have lots of spending power. With that in mind, they have a distinct perspective on dining occasions, placing more value on attributes such as sustainability, local and organic, grass-fed and hormone-free offerings.
