TORONTO — Susan Senecal, chief marketing officer of A&W Food Services, was named chair of the CRFA at the association’s annual general meeting, which was held on March 4 during Toronto’s CRFA Show.

As a Board member for the past eight years, Senecal replaces Donna Dooher, proprietor of Toronto’s Mildred’s Temple Kitchen. Dooher steps down after guiding the association through a new era of renewal.

“In today’s competitive landscape we need to exceed the expectations of our guests and our members,” said Senecal at the AGM. “We’re always interested in being nimble and acting on the needs of our members. We are looking at the CRFA brand and what the next evolution of the brand will be.”

Senecal, who holds a degree in biology and human genetics from Montreal’s McGill University, entered the hospitality business on a whim. “My first job in the restaurant industry was as a cafeteria cashier in university. Once graduation came along I loved the restaurant business so much, I’sve stayed there ever since,” she said. In recent years, A&W has grown to 773 locations, and it posted more than $850 million in sales last year.
