TORONTO — Toronto restaurant Alo has made the prestigious World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, coming in at number-94.
The list calls the restaurant “an unabashed champion of fine dining, combining classical technique, global ingredients and a chic dining room with views of the city.”
In 2017, Alo took over the top spot on the list of Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants — dethroning Montreal’s Toqué. The restaurant maintained its number-1 ranking in 2018.
Alo is the first Canadian restaurant to make it to the top 100 of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list since Joe Beef, in Montreal appeared in the number-81 position in 2015. The restaurant is helmed by chef Patrick Kriss, who trained under Daniel Boulud and the Troisgros family.
