HAMILTON, Ont. — Frank & Teressa’s Anchor Bar — the first franchise location of the U.S.-based Anchor bar who’s owners claim to have invented the buffalo chicken wing — is coming to Hamilton, Ont., in early 2013.

“Frank & Teressa’s Anchor Bar is coming to Canada. With its first location slated for Jackson Square in Hamilton, Ont., the team is extremely excited and have been whole-heartedly welcomed with open arms from the city, the people and surrounding local businesses,” reads an announcement on the Canadian website.

Master Franchisees, Ivano Toscani and Gary Reed plan to add a Canadian menu that will feature more salad options, and “the Olympic Burger” (hotdog-style burger).

Some experts suspect the pub will face tough competition, since the new franchise is setting up shop close to the Honest Lawyer, a restaurant that also specializes in pub fare. At least one pundit believes Canucks will choose to support their own. “Canadians are faithful to Canadian-owned businesses,” said Dave Broughton, a Hamilton, Ont.-based franchise consultant at FranNet as quoted by the Financial Post. “You can’t get a more loyal following than Tim Hortons, and some of the other doughnut places have tried.”
