TORONTO — A&W has announced a new partnership with plant-based protein company Lightlife, which will see A&W selling 100-per-cent plant-based nuggets starting December 2.

The move makes A&W the first quick-service restaurant to offer a vegan “chicken nugget.”

The limited-time offer will be used as a test to monitor the popularity of the item, which will be available at all A&W locations in B.C. and Ontario.

The Lightlife nuggets are made from peas, fava beans and wheat flour and can be accompanied by two plant-based A&W dipping sauces: Barbecue and Sweet & Sour.

Customers can try the nuggets in a six-piece serving ($5.99), 10-piece serving ($8.99) or in a Kids’ Pack meal ($5.99).
