Bacon crumbles and inflation challenge

A top-selling item in the PREMORO® lineup is the always-popular Bacon Flavoured Crumbles. These full-flavoured bacon crumbles allow chefs to infuse real bacon flavours in dishes without the high bacon costs.

The texture and flavour of bacon make this protein a popular addition for a wide range of offerings, from fully loaded potatoes (baked and wedges), poutine, pizza rolls and flatbreads, to pasta and risotto dishes, burgers and more.

The demand for bacon-flavoured crumbles has grown consistently over the years, says Dan Glendinning, Country Manager, Canada foodservice, Hormel Foods Canada. “Bacon crumbles are a great alternative to traditional bacon bits because they cost less, while still providing the true bacon flavour operators and their customers are looking for. They also have more of a cooked-meat texture, making for a softer bite, while still delivering the traditional flavour people have come to expect from bacon.”

The convenience and cost saving have become even more important as the industry is facing rising inflation on top of supply shortages and price increases, he adds. “Now more than ever, operators have been struggling to manage their costs so are looking for alternatives. Bacon is one product that has been particularly hard hit and prices for chopped bacon have increased substantially over the past year. PREMORO® Bacon Flavoured Crumbles offer a more accessible and affordable option, without having to sacrifice flavour or consistency.”

Because they are individually quick frozen, chefs only need to take out what they need.
