TORONTO — Bento and Too Good To Go have joined forces to reduce food waste and bring affordable sushi to Canadians.
This collaboration has grown from a pilot in three retail locations to a nationwide partnership. It includes corporate stores, franchisees and commissary kitchens across Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia. In November, 66 grocery kiosks in Ontario also joined the initiative (within Metro and Longo’s).
Across the various pilot stages, Bento’s Surprise Bags that contain surplus sushi and ready-to-eat meals at half the price or less have proven to be popular. More than 25,000 meals have already been saved from going to waste.
Partnering with Too Good To Go is also allowing Bento to introduce its products to new consumers at a reduced price. In fact, 61 per cent of consumers who purchased Surprise Bags so far were first-time buyers, with 84 per cent expressing interest in returning.
