VANCOUVER — A handful of wine and food experts were recently honoured at the 8th Annual Awards Lunch, during the 33rd annual Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival.
The festival honours and celebrates “those professionals who have developed and enhanced the extraordinary wine and food culture of our region,” said Harry Hertscheg, festival executive director of the event.
Among the winners were food and wine critic Jurgen Gothe who took the Spirited Industry Professional Award, operators such as C Restaurant, Cioppino’s Mediterranean Grill & Enoteca and CinCin in the Wine List Award category and Owen Knowlton, West Restaurant wine director as Sommelier of the Year.
Jack Evrensel, proprietor of Top Table, parent company of West, commented on Knowlton’s win. “I’sm very proud of Owen,” he said. “He has a nuanced palate and deep wine knowledge, but it’s his ability to gently translate both that creates memorable experiences for our guests.”
