Like the River Café at Prince’s Island Park, Boxwood is nestled in a park and features seasonal, regional cuisine. The difference is the Central Memorial Park eatery caters to a more casual crowd in a smaller space, with an open kitchen, counter service and takeout.
The prices may be cheaper, but the calibre remains. “We wanted to be able to serve the kind of quality food that we’re dedicated to at River Café, but in a less formal way,” explains, Sal Howell, proprietor of the fine-dining mainstay and new casual eatery.
At the centre of the small kitchen is a rotisserie. “It’s very much a deconstructed menu, so you can choose something from the rotisserie, and you can choose your salads and sides to go with it,” says Howell.
The menu includes sandwiches, like chickpea fritters and roasted eggplant served on a red fife ciabatta ($10), rotisserie offerings, such as Diamond Willow organic beef ribeye, red beet and apple ($18) and range of desserts, including Saskatoon bread pudding ($7).
Boxwood is open for lunch and dinner from Tuesday to Sunday. No reservations are needed.
