DOLLARD-DES-ORMEAUX, Que. — A potential boycott of a Five Guys Burgers in Quebec has been averted.

The Unity Group, a civil-rights language organization in Quebec, was planning to boycott the restaurant in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Que., today, because there is no English on the menu.

“The town of Dollard-des-Ormeaux, where the restaurant does business, is well over 50-per-cent English-speaking and is an officially bilingual borough in Quebec, however Five Guys’ menu is unilingual French,” reads a post on the Unity Group’s official Facebook page.

According the group’s Facebook page, it received a last-minute memo from Five Guy’s management saying the Canadian branch was in communication with the U.S. head office to discuss the matter, and it’s “committed” to serving its clientele “equally and respectfully.”

“We make sure our customers are served in whatever language they want,” said Wayne Sellers, president of Eastern Canada’s Five Guys restaurants, as quoted by the montrealgazette.com. “And, we monitor our customer-service comments online every day. We get all sorts of feedback. We listen and we make whatever changes necessary to make them happy.” Sellers also told the Gazette that the chain will be looking into printing bilingual menus.
