MILTON, Ont. — Bunzl Canada, in partnership with Sealed Air Diversery, Kimberly-Clark Professional and Nilfisk-Advance Canada, is sponsoring its 17th annual b.r.a.i.n.child Ripple of Hope Golf Tournament on July 12 at the Milton-Ont. Greystone Golf Club.
The tournament aims to raise money in support of SickKids’ b.r.a.i.n.child, a charity organized by a group of parents, family and friends with the common experience of caring for a child with a brain tumour. The funds raised by Bunzl and b.r.a.i.n.child help purchase new equipment and support paediatric brain tumour research conducted at the Arthur & Sonia Labatt Brain Tumour Research Centre at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
So far, the annual golf tournament has helped raise more than $1.25 million, which has gone towards specialized tumour stem-cell research and the purchase of a confocal laser scanning microscope, both of which have proven critical in understanding the causes of brain tumours in children.
“Research at the Brain Tumour Research Centre is developing the next frontier of therapy — personalized medicine based on patients’ genetic information,” says John Howlett, president of Bunzl Distribution Canada Division. “Bunzl Canada is proud to have supported b.r.a.i.n.child and the Research Centre’s work for many years, and we’re honoured to be able to continue giving back to those in our community who are battling paediatric brain tumours.”
