The money, which was donated Monday night by Prime Minister Stephen Harper, during the farewell dinner honouring the Queen’s visit, will go towards the purchase of new horses and the doubling of its stables, allowing 200 needy children the chance to learn basic equestrian skills.
“For many underprivileged children, the chance to work up close with a horse is rare. The thrill of caring for and then riding a horse becomes an incredible learning and growth experience,” said Bill Moir, THCF president. “It’s a tremendous honour for the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation to be recognized by Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the federal government in the name of Queen Elizabeth.”
This year the foundation’s six camps will host some 14,000 children, teaching life skills like teamwork and confidence in a setting that includes activities like white water rafting and rock climbing.
