“[It’s] the best year in the past decade.” That’s the 2014 outlook for the foodservice equipment, supply, tabletop and furnishings sector, according to MAFSI (Manufacturers Agents Association for the Foodservice Industry). Canadian equipment and supplies sales are expected to increase 5.5 per cent, which is the best growth rate in North America where overall growth is expected to reach 4.9 per cent. By sector, growth is expected in equipment (5.7 per cent); supplies (5.3 per cent); tabletop (3.6 per cent); and furnishings (7.3 per cent).

The Canadian and North American market outlook was presented in a 16-page “2014-MAFSI Market Forecast Report” at the MAFSI Business Development Conference and Sales Management Forum, held at the PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Springs, Fla., from Jan. 15 to 18. The 14th annual “MAFSI Market Forecast” is based on responses from MAFSI sales representatives across North America and is a key part of MAFSI’s quarterly “Business Barometer” series of industry statistics. The excerpt included here is a two-page look at the Canadian market; it was prepared by Mitch Kostuch, group publisher, Foodservice and Hospitality magazine.
