SACKVILLE, N.B. — Organic food producers throughout the country are celebrating the first-ever Organic Week.

Running from Oct. 9 to Oct. 16, the promotion — spearheaded by the Canadian Organic Growers and the Canada Organic Trade Association (COTA) — is honouring several milestones in the organic community. The week is designed to call attention to the Canadian government’s new organic seal, the Canada Organic logo and also to celebrate the growing success of the industry, which saw a spike of $2 billion between 2006 and 2008.

“We can’st believe the response we’sre getting from people in the first year,” said Matthew Holmes, executive director of COTA. “We’sve even had floor-level employees of major retailers calling us to see if they can get their hands on some of our posters and brochures to promote the new Canada Organic logo to their customers.”

Organic Week activities include farm and orchard tours, winery and brewery visits and tastings, harvest festivals, farmer’s markets, discussions and more.
