TORONTO — Daniela Molettieri, an Institut de tourisme et d’shôtellerie du Québec (ITHQ) student, has won the S. Pellegrino Almost Famous Chef Canadian Regional Competition.

Molettieri, who impressed the judges with her Fillet of Veal Stuffed with Wild Mushrooms, was quick to thank her teacher.

“I owe a lot of my success this evening to Chef Côté, my ITHQ advisor,” said Molettieri after winning the competition that was held at Toronto’s Calphalon Culinary Center. “He spent a lot of time helping me prepare for this competition and his patience really paid off.”

Meanwhile, Anne-Marie Plourde, a student at École hôtelière de la Capitale, was a winner, too. She took home the People’s Choice award for her Roasted Duck Breast and Gingerbread Crusted Foie Gras.

The fast-paced, high-pressure cooking competition included six culinary students representing The George Brown Chefs School (Toronto), The International Culinary School at the Art Institute of Vancouver, École hôtelière de la Capitale (Québec City) and ITHQ (Montréal).

Molettieri will compete for the title of S.Pellegrino Almost Famous Chef against 10 regional finalists from across the U.S. at The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone in Napa Valley, Calif., starting March. 9.
