Canadian Culinary Book Award Winners Named

TORONTO — Foodies recently gathered for the Canadian Culinary Books awards, presented in a gala ceremony at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto Friday, Nov. 5.

Cuisine Canada and the University of Guelph handed out awards to winners in almost 10 categories. Winners included Laura Calder who took gold in the English Cookbook category with French Taste: Elegant Everyday Eating and Patrice Demers who won gold in the French Cookbook category for his tome Le Carte des Desserts.

The Edna Award, which honours lifetime achievement, went to John Bishop of the Vancouver-based Bishop’s restaurant and the Founders Award, given on occasion to Canadians who have given a “lifetime of service” to Canada’s culinary community, went to former executive editor of Canadian Living magazine, Elizabeth Baird.
