ESPN’s Outside the Line studied 2009 food-safety inspection reports and found that only 11 stadiums, three of them in Canada, had no food-safety infractions. Canada’s best performers were Toronto’s Air Canada Centre and Rogers Centre as well as Ottawa’s Scotiabank Place.
The survey spanned arenas used for Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association, the National Hockey League and the National Football League.
The scores were based on the percentage of vendors in violation of health requirements. Other Canadian arenas ranked include: Bell Centre, Montreal, three per cent; General Motors Place, Vancouver, nine per cent; Pengrowth Saddledome, Calgary, 14 per cent; and Rexall Place, Edmonton, 25 per cent.
In the U.S., six arenas recorded a shocking 75 to 100 per cent in violations, five of them in Florida.
