VANCOUVER — Canadian chocolate companies took home 13 medals in the world finals of the International Chocolate Awards last month.

Chez Christophe Chocolaterie and Patisserie (Burnaby, B.C.) took home a gold medal in the world finals for its Bonbons Ananas Avocat; The Violet Chocolate (Edmonton) won a gold for its Honey Rosemary bar and two bronze medals for its rose mint and pumpkin chai bars; Cococo Chocolatiers (Calgary) won a silver for its honey anise confection; and Beta5 Chocolates (Vancouver) won silver medals for its rosemary caramel, carrot cake praline and yuzu curd confection.

Notably, Toronto’s Soma Chocolate won a bronze in the dark-plain/origin-bar category, which recognizes companies that make chocolate directly from the cacao bean. This marks the first time a Canadian has won an award in this bean-to-bar category.
