VAUGHAN, Ont. — Cara Operations has added another brand to its stable, announcing yesterday the acquisition of Toronto-based New York Fries.

President Jay Gould and brother Hal founded the quick-service concept in 1984 and the brand has since grown to 120 units in Canada and 36 internationally. New York Fries’ sister brand, South St. Burger Co. is not included in the transaction. “Cara is one of the most respected names in the Canadian foodservice industry and I am excited to have them take over New York Fries and continue to grow it. For my part, I will continue to build South St. Burger using the same principles that have worked so well all these years for New York Fries,” says Gould.

The NYF team will relocate to Cara’s head office in Vaughan, Ont. Warren Price, long-time EVP of New York Fries, will join Cara to oversee New York Fries’ growth. “We are looking forward to joining the Cara network and are excited about the possibilities this new venture will bring for the New York Fries business, our associates and franchise partners,” said Price.

Cara says the transaction will help differentiate its portfolio into shopping centres, where Cara brands currently have a limited presence. The deal is expected to close this fall.
