POOLER, Georgia — The death of an 80-year-old customer at a Georgia McDonald’s has been attributed to carbon dioxide poisoning, according to authorities.
Nine people, including three firefighters, a McDonald’s employee and a Savannah, Ga., family of three who tried to help, were taken to the hospital due to dizziness and difficulty breathing; they were subsequently released.According to Police chief Mark Revenew, a line used to funnel excess carbon dioxide out of the restaurant got disconnected. The gas, which is kept in tanks in a back room of the McDonald’s, was flowing into the wall next to the women’s bathroom instead of going outside.
