CANDIAC – Cascades Tissue Group today announced that the company’s first-of-its-kind Cascades‘s Moka 100 percent recycled unbleached bathroom tissue has been honored with a first place finish in the Green Manufacturer magazine’s 2013 Green Manufacturer’s Innovation Awards. The panel of judges praised Cascades for the product’s “outstanding features” and commitment to sustainability, as well as its low environmental impact compared to similar, traditional products.

“We’re proud of this innovative product and pleased to receive recognition from such an esteemed publication,” said Suzanne Blanchet, Cascades Tissue Group CEO, who conceived and championed Cascades Moka bath tissue’s development.  “The last several years have brought about countless habit changes meant to preserve the environment. But the quality and softness of the Cascades Moka unbleached bathroom tissue haven’t been sacrificed. The product doesn’st require any kind of habit change for its users and eliminates bleaching chemicals – a natural step to take for even greater sustainability.”

Launched in the Away-from-Home market in 2012, Cascades Moka bathroom tissue offers commercial purchasers the highest hygienic qualities and softness while significantly reducing the environmental impact associated with manufacturing a single-use product.  In addition to eliminating chemical whitening, Cascades’ value-added tissue product is made of a pulp mix composed of 100 percent recycled fiber, 80 percent of which is post-consumer material and 20 percent is recovered corrugated boxes.

A detailed life cycle analysis of Cascades Moka bathroom tissue revealed a reduction in overall environmental impact by at least 25 percent when compared to Cascades’ next most environmentally preferable tissue, which is whitened without chlorine.  Cascades Moka bathroom tissue holds certification with EcoLogo, Green Seal and the Chlorine Free Products Association.

Earlier this year, Cascades extended the Cascades Moka product line with facial tissue based on the success and growing demand of the bathroom tissue.
