TORONTO — CCFCC held its Central Regional Conference at Humber College in Toronto recently to discuss business prior to this summer’s national CCFCC convention to be held in Halifax.

Two culinary competitions were held during the weekend event. The winner of the Ontario junior culinary challenge was Kyong Mi Baik from the CCFCC Toronto branch; Ron Hart, from the Windsor branch of the CCFCC, won the Ontario senior-chef challenge. Both Mi Baik and Hart now advance to the national challenge this summer in Halifax.

The CCFCC has also announced plans to send four junior members to the World Association of Chefs Societies congress in Korea. Chef Donald Gyurkovits, national president of the CCFCC, says this year marks, “one of the largest contingents from Canada going to the WACS congress in Korea — 30-plus chefs.” Selected from applications, the members are Heather-May Zinck, Halifax; Sarah Luross, Saskatoon; Sophia Doria, Toronto; and Lyndsay Jones, Vancouver.

In other news, chef Ahron Goldman, from the CCFCC Windsor branch, was re-appointed CCFCC central regional vice-president for two more years.
