TORONTO — After more than 90 years in business, the Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors (formally the Canadian Wholesale Grocers Association) has surprised industry insiders with news that the association has dissolved.

“CCGD will be closing its operations on Feb. 4, 2011, with the exception of the Canadian Grand Prix New Product Awards. CCGD will complete the product evaluations prior to the transfer of the program,” writes Nick Jennery, CCGD president and CEO in an email, before thanking industry partners. “The CCGD team would like to acknowledge your valued support in helping to achieve our important goals and in advancing the industry’s agenda.”

The CCGD is a non-for-profit organization created to promote and advance the grocery and foodservice distribution industry in Canada. Association members employ approximately 428,000 Canadians in more than 12,000 communities across the country.
