TORONTO — Chef John Higgins, director of Enterprises & Brand Ambassador, the Centre for Hospitality & Culinary Arts, at George Brown College has retired. In a Twitter post, Higgins announced August 31 marked his last day in this position, which he had held since 2002.
Higgins brought many years of experience to George Brown College, mentoring the next generation of chefs. He has cooked for Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace, on the Royal Yacht Britannia, for heads of state in Washington, D.C. and for celebrities worldwide.
He began his culinary career as an apprentice at the Michelin-starred Malmaison restaurant in Glasgow, Scotland. He went on to work at the five-star luxury hotel Gleneagles. Upon immigrating to North America, Higgins worked at the Four Seasons Hotel in Canada and the U.S., before his final role in the hotel industry at the King Edward Hotel in Toronto.
