TORONTO — Chef, author and TV personality, Matt Basile has co-founded Alchemy Grills, a company that is deeply rooted in the culture of live-fire cooking. Basile and his partners will launch a curated line of products and the Alchemy Grill, the world’s first simultaneous live-fire grill and smoker in early 2023.

Basile and his business partner, Scott Kavanagh, former co-founder of The Art Of, an organization that produced leadership conferences and training programs across North America, have formed a diverse team of entrepreneurs and barbeque veterans to bring Alchemy Grills to life.

The prototype was engineered by a team of designers and engineers in Austin, Texas and has been used for video content, promotional events and the inaugural five-part “Flame to Table” dinner series hosted at Alchemy Farms in collaboration with Dickson Barbeque Centre. The unit is designed to have two cooking areas. The lower unit has a stackable shelving smoker that can easily fit up to eight racks of ribs, 12 tomahawk steaks or 30lbs of chicken wings. The upper unit features a 32-inch circular grill space split in half between a more traditional diamond-cross grill and a plancha grill space. The upper area is powered by charcoal and features a 10-inch wide log stacked fire pit in the centre of the Alchemy.

“For over a decade, I was fully immersed in my food truck, restaurant and catering business,” says Basile. “At a certain point, my cup was full and I needed to keep growing as a chef and entrepreneur. Making this move to work with an incredible team and launch a disruptive product in the at-home grilling space just made sense. It was time to put my passion and energy into something new, and Alchemy was the perfect fit.”

“I’ve spent my entire career looking for ways to create memorable experiences for people through live events,” says Kavanagh. “I’m excited to have the opportunity to do the exact same thing in a new industry while innovating how people cook and entertain in their backyards.”
