TORONTO — A group of amateur Canadian chefs are preparing to test their culinary skills at the upcoming S. Pellegrino Almost Famous Chef Canada Regional Competition.

Eight students from schools across the country — including the George Brown Chef’s School, the International Culinary School at the Art Institute of Vancouver, École hôtelière de la Capitale and the Institut de tourisme et d’hôtellerie du Québec — will prepare dishes for a judging panel that will include Jeff Dell, Milestones executive chef, and James Chatto, senior editor, Food and Drink magazine, among others. The victors will move on to compete against U.S. chefs at the final competition in Napa Valley, Calif. in March.

The Toronto competition and tasting reception will be held Feb. 7 at the Calphalon Culinary Center.
