Chili Challenge Returns

TORONTO — While the weather outside is bound to get frightful, Canadians can fight the cold months ahead with the old winter standby comfort food, chili. And, for the third-consecutive year, celebrity chef Anthony Sedlack will be encouraging culinary Canadians to show off their tastiest, spiciest version of the heartwarming classic as part of the Zantac Chili Challenge.

Entries submitted to chilichallenge.ca will be available for viewing Dec. 14, when Canadians can vote for their favourites. This year, the top three chefs in Eastern, Central and Western Canada will be invited to a mini cook-off in their region the week of Jan. 17, when Sedlak will name a winner. One winner from each competition will travel to Toronto in February, to compete against two-year reigning and undefeated champion, Mike Callaghan in an attempt to take the title and win the grand prize trip for two to Mexico’s Mayan Riviera.

“Canadians love their chili and from what we’sve seen in the past two years…they really bring the heat,” says Sedlak. “We’sve seen some unique cooking methods over the years and the use of some very interesting ingredients. I’sm looking forward to this cross-Canada experience and seeing the creativity, flavour and fire this year’s competitors bring to the table.”

Thousands of Canadians submitted and voted for their favourite recipes in last year’s competition. The winning recipe, Wiri Wiri Hot Chili, was a stand-out with unique ingredients like Wiri Wiri peppers, dark chocolate and bourbon.

The last date for recipe submissions is Dec. 13; the last day for voting is Dec. 29. For more information, click here.
