Chipotle Founder Expands Asian-inspired Dining Concept

DENVER — The team behind Chipotle Mexican Grill is expanding its reach with the growth of its new ShopHouse concept, which offers Southeast Asian-inspired rice bowls, noodles and sandwiches.

The first Shophouse test concept launched in Washington, D.C in 2011 and is now expected to grow to more than 10 outlets by the end of 2014. The concept, much like the parent company’s Chipotle Mexican Grill and Pizzeria Locale, offers fresh, natural ingredients with a customizable style.

“We have more potential than anyone else to change the food culture in a positive way,” Steve Ells, co-CEO of Chipotle, told USA Today. “I’d like to change the way Americans think about and eat fast food.”

Meanwhile, Chipotle Mexican Grill is expected to open up to 145 restaurants in the U.S. this year.
