TORONTO — Hype Food Co. is set to open in Toronto’s Leslieville neighbourhood on May 19. The new fast-casual eatery will serve a menu free of gluten, peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, milk, wheat, fish, soy and sesame.
The restaurant’s co-founder, Pauline Osena, is a mother of three children, and two of them have multiple food allergies. The challenges she faced dining out with her children inspired her to create a safe place for people with food allergies to dine.
Hype Food Co.’s offerings will include a selection of baked goods and customizable bowls. Diners can pick a base from a variety of gluten-free options, then top their bowls with protein such as pulled beef brisket, chicken and plant-based options such as beans, roasted sunflower seeds, flax seeds, hemp seeds and chia seeds, as well as a variety of vegetables. The bowls are finished with the choice of plant-based, house-made sauces and dressings.
The baked goods featured will include cupcakes, cakes, brownies, cookies and other common treats made with gluten-free, nut-free flours. Hype Food Co. will also serve Dole Whips, which have a cult-like following in Disney Parks.
